The formula

landed CHF = goods CHF + shipping CHF + 8.1% × (goods CHF + shipping CHF) + carrier fee

Swiss import VAT is charged on the value of the goods plus transport. The carrier (Post, DHL, UPS) usually adds a handling fee for customs clearance; it varies by carrier and value. Below a small VAT amount customs do not collect VAT; this calculator always adds it to stay on the safe side.
